FAQ

Please reach us at melanie@lotuspediatrictherapy.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Occupational therapy addresses anything that "occupies" your time during your day to day.
For kids, their main job is playing and learning.

  • Are they learning age-appropriate behavior, attention, social, play, and emotional regulation skills?
  • Are they meeting school expectations?
  • Are they able to dress, bathe, and take care of themselves like same aged peers?

Occupational therapists can work with people of any age. At Lotus Pediatric Therapy, we specifically work with kids and parents.

1) Everyday functional skills are always at the center focus
2) Holistic approach by gathering information about ...

  • The person (ex. child's current motor skills used during handwriting)
  • The activity (ex. handwriting expectations at school)
  • The environment (ex. classroom setting)

Followed by asking "What can we do to change or help the person, activity, or environment in order to promote functional skills (ex. school performance requiring handwriting)?"

Offered in your home or online via video meeting. In home evaluations are generally recommended to be more thorough.

60 minutes

Yes, we ask the parent / caregiver to remain present.

Evaluations typically include a brief parent interview followed by a comprehensive evaluation of your child’s skills. The evaluation concludes with a brief discussion about evaluation results and a recommended plan of care.

Evaluations typically include a brief parent interview followed by a detailed evaluation of specific concern areas. The evaluation concludes with a brief discussion about evaluation results and a recommended plan of care.

Based on your child’s evaluation, you will collaborate with your therapist to determine the best location. For example, if your main concern is behavior at home, sessions could take place in your home. If your main concern is social skills at restaurants, we could go to local restaurants. If your main concern is cognitive skills, we could complete online sessions. Location of treatment can change as needed.

Sessions include one on one direct therapy aimed at achieving agreed upon therapy goals.

Parent / caregiver involvement during sessions depends on child need, but we do ask you to stay on site.

This depends on the results of your child’s evaluation and treatment progress. At your evaluation, you will collaborate with your therapist to determine the best plan for number of sessions per week and how long we anticipate therapy to last. Therapy 1x/week for 60-minute sessions is common. Frequency and duration of therapy can change as needed.

No, but it is recommended to promote continued age-appropriate development.

No. There is zero obligation after an evaluation.

I have always felt that Melanie went out of her way to provide the best level of care and therapy for my teen, including researching new techniques and thought-processes, and seeking confidential advice from other providers in her network.
